Electrolux donates washing machines to organization for homeless youth

Electrolux in the UK has donated 16 washing machines to Centrepoint, the leading UK charity working to improve the lives of homeless young people.

Every year Centrepoint provides over 290,000 nights’ accommodation to Britain’s young homeless. With its facilities in Greater London and in the Northeasat of England, Centrepoint has contact with 800 homeless youths daily.

The 16 washing machines from Electrolux were sent to semi-supported flats in London, where young residents now no longer need to go to the launderette to do their laundry, which is both expensive and time-consuming.

Clare Norton, Centrepoint Director of Services is thrilled with the washers. “We are extremely grateful to Electrolux, who has helped some of our residents to do these ordinary things which most of us take for granted,” she says.

“Some of our residents are as young as 16 and you cannot imagine that something as ordinary as a washing machine can make such an impact on their self-esteem,” she says. “To be able to look after yourself is the most basic skill needed to live a normal life and a large part of this is caring for your appearance and having a comfortable home.”
