Electrolux launches first connected air-conditioner

Electrolux introduces its first-ever smart air conditioner in North America, the Frigidaire Cool Connect that allows consumers to program the appliance through an app on their tablet or smartphone. The launch is an important step in the Group’s connectivity strategy.

With the Frigidaire Smart Appliance app, consumers can remotely turn the unit on and off, change the temperature, create custom schedules and save money on their energy costs by using the air conditioner only when they need to. The app can be downloaded for free on Apple and Google platforms, and within minutes, the appliance can be synced up to a smart phone and controlled remotely.

“Connectivity is already on the minds of many consumers, and Electrolux intends to build an even stronger offering around the ability to sense and control indoor climate,” says Kevin Fiske, Head of the Global Product Line Home Comfort. “The Cool Connect air conditioner is just the first of many products that we’ll be launching around the world.”

Connectivity is a key part of the Group’s strategy

Last year at the IFA trade fair in Munich, Germany, Electrolux introduced a new app for Android and iOS, “AEG Let’s Taste”, which fuses together the areas of steam cooking and connectivity.

And this year, Electrolux is continuing to develop and launch connected products in all its major categories.

“Connectivity is a key part of our business strategy,” says Jan Brockmann, Chief Technology Officer at Electrolux. “In fact, 2015 is a very important year for us as we are developing and launching connected products in all our major categories.”

“Our ambition is to create products within an ecosystem that makes it simple, seamless and safe for consumers to connect their appliances, regardless of brand.”

In order to enable seamless connected products, Electrolux is a premier member of the AllSeen Alliance, a consortium of companies collaborating to develop common software standards and platforms for connected home products.
