Electrolux Group at COP30: Insights and action from Belém

Electrolux Group took part in COP30 in Belém, Brazil, where global leaders, companies and experts gathered to discuss next steps in climate action. Nearly 200 countries participated in the negotiations, focusing on topics such as energy transition, adaptation and financing for developing economies.

Representing Electrolux Group were Leandro Jasiocha, Head of Business Area Latin America, and João Zeni, Director of Sustainability for Latin America, who followed the negotiations, contributed industry perspectives and shared how home appliance innovation supports low-carbon living.

“Our mission and responsibility are to participate in forums like COP30 that help move better solutions forward for our value chain, our consumers and society,” says João Zeni, Director of Sustainability for Latin America.

Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer Elena Breda emphasized that meaningful progress relies on both innovation and partnership. “By working with global partners and advancing initiatives like our Greenhouse Stockholm and appliance recycling stations, we are turning ambition into action for people, planet and the business,” says Breda.

Advancing circularity and collaboration in Belém

During the conference, Electrolux Group was selected as one of the winners of the global Sustainable Business COP30 award. Almost 700 cases were submitted, and our Greenhouse Stockholm project was chosen among the 48 finalists for its distinctive approach to sustainable innovation.

The company also launched a recycling station in Belém in partnership with Grupo Boticário and Green Mining. The initiative aims to strengthen compensation for waste collection and expand responsible end-of-life collection of appliances, including refrigerators, microwaves and washing machines. The project contributes to circular economy efforts and complements existing programs for collection and conscious disposal.

We also joined the Let Green Gas Count campaign, a global effort to ensure renewable gases are properly recognized in climate reporting and to accelerate the shift toward fair, science-based standards. The campaign brought together more than 230 organizations, including companies like Volvo Trucks, Unilever and AstraZeneca, all calling for changes to how renewable gas is treated in emissions reporting.

Electrolux Group continues to advance one of the most ambitious climate strategies in the sector. We aim to reduce the emissions from operations by 85 percent (scopes 1 and 2) by 2030 compared with 2021 and we have achieved 31% by 2024. We also aim to reduce scope 3 emissions (mainly from product use) by 42 percent by 2030 compared with 2021, and we have already achieved a 31 percent reduction through more efficient products.
