Electrolux announces expansion of North American headquarters

Electrolux announced today that the company will expand its North American headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, the second expansion at this location in three years.

Electrolux will invest $85 million in a 20-year lease agreeement, as part of the development of a second building adjacent to the existing headquarters. Features of the new six-floor, 375,000-square-foot building will include LEED certification, solar panels, a roof garden and a courtyard.

The expansion comes as Electrolux expects to add 810 new jobs in the state until 2017. The jobs are in the areas of research and development, marketing, design, engineering, supply chain, finance, IT and executive management.

“Electrolux is committed to bringing innovative solutions to consumers and to advanced manufacturing,” said Jack Truong, president and CEO of Electrolux Major Appliances North America. “As a leader in appliance R&D, innovation and beautiful design, we’re excited about what this new expansion means for the future of our business and that our continued investment in Charlotte will help bring jobs and drive economic growth.”

The North Carolina Economic Investment Committee has voted to award a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) to Electrolux in support of the project. Receipt of the award is based on proof of job creation and other performance requirements.

Electrolux currently employs nearly 1,500 people at three locations in North Carolina. Facilities in Charlotte include headquarters, R&D for North American laundry products and electronic systems, and product design for all major and small appliances built in North America. In Kinston, Electrolux has a manufacturing plant and R&D for dish care products. Electrolux’ National Parts Distribution Center is located in the Asheville area.
