Electrolux launches investigation of UK factory

Electrolux has decided to launch an investigation into the future viability of a cooker factory in Spennymoor, UK. The factory manufactures free standing and built-in cookers for the UK and Irish markets and has approx. 500 employees.

“Imports from countries with lower cost levels have intensified over the last few years, therefore resulting in lower prices. Price erosion and the intensified global competition has significantly undermined the profitability of the factory in Spennymoor which is why we need to review the operations there”, says Magnus Yngen, head of Electrolux Major Appliances Europe.

The investigation is scheduled to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2007.
