Case study (EN5): Partnerships for energy reduction

In August 2010, Electrolux launched the Energy Efficiency Partnership Program (EEPP) with six of its Chinese suppliers, to help them reduce their energy use through effective energy management and targeted action.

The pilot program is part of the overall Electrolux ambition to improve operational and supply chain efficiency. By reporting energy data, suppliers also help the Group to meet the transparency requirements of stakeholders. Through the EEPP, suppliers can learn from the experience of the 'Green Spirit' energy and water efficiency program at Electrolux factories and facilities, to streamline their own energy use and become more involved in the sustainability agenda.

The Electrolux initiative has been aligned with a sister program launched by the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) which engaged leading multinational manufacturers, retailers, and consumer products companies to share their experience on upstream energy efficiency.

The program is progressing well and examples of activities include: tracking energy use on a monthly basis, installation of energy meters on processes, replacing inefficient lighting systems and the replacement of old compressors with more energy-efficient models.

Electrolux is helping to structure energy data for follow-up actions. Once it has evaluated the outcomes of the initiatives adopted by pilot companies, the plan is to roll out learnings from the EEPP to suppliers during 2011.
