EN26-27

Electrolux supports developments to phase out inefficient appliances, along with better enforcement of efficiency standards. As of December 1, 2013, more stringent European Eco-Design energy-efficiency requirements stipulated that Class ‘A’ dishwashers and washing machines were no longer to be sold. During 2013,European legislation was passed that will introduce new energy labels for a range of products including vacuum cleaners, ovens and hoods. Their impact is described more fully in the Product responsibility section.

During 2014 the company will continue to refine its product-performance monitoring and reporting methodology to keep track of product efficiency, inform target setting, and update its Restricted Materials List (RML).

Changes in legislation and the need to modify products could potentially have a material impact on Electrolux. However, their financial implications have not been quantitatively collated on Group level.

Global Green Range
Sales of the Group’s green ranges, the most energy- and water-efficient appliances, accounted for 12% (10%) of sold units and 24% (18%) of gross profit.

Improving product efficiency

Refrigerator and freezer efficiency in Europe improved on average by 3% (3%) per year from 2008 to 2013. See graph below.

Fleet average 2008-2013
In Europe, Electrolux realized continuous improvement in energy efficiency in cold products and laundry in 2013. The energy index is set at 100% for 2008. Labeling systems were changed for dishwashers and laundry products in 2010. The baseline year was therefore 2011 for these products.

Synergies can be achieved by connecting appliances. A pilot project to introduce smart products and connected appliances to Stockholm Royal Seaport is scheduled for 2015. Electrolux publishes guidelines and tips for the efficient use of products.
