An appetite for sustainability

In 2014, Electrolux and Worldchef cooked up a joint initiative to spread sustainable cookery practices around the world.

Worldchef (formerly WACS) is a non-profit association comprising 105
member countries and 10 million member chefs worldwide. As well as being a global voice for the culinary profession, it promotes educational programs in the culinary arts, technology, trends and science of cooking. A key aim is to cultivate awareness of sustainable kitchen practices.

Electrolux Professional has teamed up with Worldchef on a joint initiative, ‘Art & Science Come Together.’ It uses Electrolux Centers of Excellence to offer world-class seminars, workshops and demonstrations that fuse the latest professional cooking technology with advice from experienced chefs. The aim is to educate chefs on the importance of incorporating sustainable practices while maintaining high standards of preparation and service.

A turnkey solution showcased in the seminars is the Electrolux Cook & Chill system, which offers the following sustainability benefits:

  1. An integrated, state-of-the-art, optimized system
  2. A wide range of dedicated accessories
  3. Higher levels of food safety
  4. Reduced food loss
  5. Reduced food waste
  6. Reduced running costs thanks to optimized ‘cook-chill-serve-save’ flow
  7. Higher profitability

This year four seminars were held in  four pilot countries, including the UEA, UK US and Russia. Up to 400 senior chefs were trained in the use of innovative culinary technology from Electrolux Professional, giving us the opportunity to engage with the end-consumer while enhancing the skills of next-generation chefs.

In 2015, the initiative will be extended to Turkey, Sweden, South East Asia and India.
