EN26-27

Electrolux supports phase out of the most inefficient appliances, along with better enforcement of efficiency standards. As of December 1, 2013, more stringent European Eco-Design energy-efficiency requirements stipulated that Class ‘A’ dishwashers and washing machines were no longer to be sold. During 2013, European legislation was passed to introduce new energy labels for a range of products including vacuum cleaners, ovens and hoods. These came into force in 2014 for vacuum cleaners and will be implemented in 2015 for ovens and hoods. More stringent minimum efficiency standards and new Energy Star requirements for refrigerators and freezers in US entered into force in 2014. Their impact is described more fully in the Product responsibility section.

During 2015 the company will continue to refine its product-performance monitoring and reporting methodology to keep track of product efficiency, inform target setting, and update its Restricted Materials List (RML).

Changes in legislation and the need to modify products could potentially have a material impact on Electrolux. Their financial implications are described in the Group’s disclosure to CDP.

Improving product efficiency

Refrigerator and freezer efficiency in Europe improved on average by 3% (3%) per year during last three years. See graph below.

In Europe, Electrolux realized continuous improvement in energy efficiency in cold products and laundry in 2014. The energy index is set at 100% for 2012. Better data sources were used since 2012, the baseline year for reporting.

Further efficiency improvements can be achieved by connecting appliances to an intelligent energy network. A pilot project to develop connected appliances for Stockholm Royal Seaport is ongoing and Installation into the apartments will take place in 2016.

Electrolux publishes guidelines and tips for the efficient use of products.
