LA10-12: Training and education

Electrolux has tools and processes in place for organizational learning and knowledge management. This includes formal learning networks and Internet-based knowledge, as well as a company-own education facility.

Shaping great leaders

To develop employees, Electrolux offers three leadership programs that provide guidance for line managers, middle managers and senior leaders. The programs are run across the organization.

Electrolux introduced its Leadership Model in 2012, with the stated expectation on managers to reflect both business and people leadership qualities. All employees are also measured on elements of the model in annual performance appraisals. Leadership Insights, a selection of management literature and industry updates regularly informs and inspires leaders on trends and best practice.

On an employee level, annual Performance Appraisals are mandatory meetings that all white-collar employees (approximately 28% of all employees) have with their managers. Its purpose is to review the previous year's objectives, to get feedback on performance and set future objectives and development goals. The number of appraisal talks conducted is not collated on Group level.

The Group does not collect data on the average number of hours of training per employee.

Sustainability training

Workshops and training are ongoing to support other aspects of the Group’s sustainability goals. These include ISO14001, Workplace Standard, OHS, Anti-corruption, and Ethics training.

The group-wide program Purpose highlights company initiatives that make a positive everyday difference in people’s lives and for the planet and encourages all employees to engage in initiatives that create value beyond financial and market objectives. In 2013, voluntary workshops will be held across the company.

Occupational health and safety

There is strong group-wide focus on training in order to prevent injuries and illnesses, especially in manufacturing. Global OHS training is ongoing, including induction, CPR, first aid, driver-awareness, drugs and alcohol, and safe operating of machinery such as forklifts.

Anticorruption

The Ethics at Electrolux Program, including training and a helpline operated by a third party, rolled out in seven major Electrolux European markets in 2012. This will continue in 2013. The program features a guidance booklet, an internal web portal with additional policy information and a training module. See more at Anti-corruption and public policy.

Every employee is expected to abide by the rules of fair competition. The Group’s Policy on Corruption and Bribery and Policy on Antitrust underline its commitment to counter anti-competitive behavior. In 2012 and 2013, approximately 2,000 employees from selected functions are taking part in training.
