Electrolux launches sous-vide cooking system for domestic use

Electrolux is this year launching a combi-steam oven and vacuum sealer as a dual set of appliances that facilitate domestic sous-vide cooking – now making it possible to bring restaurant-quality flavor to the home through a professional cooking technique.

Sous-vide is a steam cooking technique which is widely used for the preparation of food in some of the best restaurants in the world. Electrolux launched its first professional steam oven in 1974. It is the preferred supplier of cooking equipment to half of Europe’s Michelin-starred restaurants.

“Steam technology in general, and sous-vide in particular, are excellent examples of how we can leverage our professional heritage to introduce new features and types of products which cater to the growing interest for cooking among consumers in the premium segment.”

The new Electrolux-branded combi-steam oven and vacuum sealing draw will be available in Europe from autumn 2013.

About combi-steam ovens

Electrolux combi-steam ovens can intuitively switch between the function of a standard fan assisted oven to use steam as and when required. Steam cooking is not only a healthy way of preparing vegetables, as vitamin and mineral levels are maintained, but a great way to ensure the succulence of meat and fish, especially through slow cooking which offers tenderness without the risk of over-cooking.

About sous-vide

Sous-vide cooking is essentially a two part process. In the first instance, dishes are vacuum sealed before then being steam-cooked at low temperatures to complete the cooking process. This technique provides great quality tasting food and enhanced texture without compromising the nutritional value of ingredients. It also allows the majority of a dish to be pre-prepared well-ahead of its serving time, thus offering greater time-efficiency. Electrolux now offers a vacuum sealing draw and combi-steam oven that work in tandem to offer households the opportunity of using this technique.
